It took me several years to realize,
That sins can be forgiven,
It took a few reckless nights for me to realize,
I don't have to act like a fool.
It took several long talks with my oldest brother to realize,
I don't have to worry about growing up,
It took my sister in law telling me I could do anything,
For me to realize I have a future.
It took the love of my brother, Philip,
To show me how to be loyal,
It took the words of my sister, Sarah,
For me to not feel so alone.
It took me seeing every act of my oldest sister,
To teach me true kindness,
It took seeing my brother in law marry my sister,
For me to believe in true love.
It took the unending love of my parents,
To raise me into who I am,
It's taken me a very long time but now I realize,
That I am worth loving.

We Dance in a Garden
We dance in a garden,
Time dances around us,
We are holding hands,
Your arms keep me safe.
And I feel like I'm home,
For where is home to us?
It's where our souls and hearts,
Are together, never apart.
Our love is the music,
We sway to it slowly,
Moonlight is showering down,
The night cradles we two.
Our garden, our love, our life,
As we rock back in chairs,
Old though we may be,
Our minds still dance together.
Our memories are the garden,
And we shall stay there,
Till death do us part, my dear,
And till death I shall love you.
Time dances around us,
We are holding hands,
Your arms keep me safe.
And I feel like I'm home,
For where is home to us?
It's where our souls and hearts,
Are together, never apart.
Our love is the music,
We sway to it slowly,
Moonlight is showering down,
The night cradles we two.
Our garden, our love, our life,
As we rock back in chairs,
Old though we may be,
Our minds still dance together.
Our memories are the garden,
And we shall stay there,
Till death do us part, my dear,
And till death I shall love you.

Better
Better to do than dream,
Better to be strong than lean,
Better to love than hate,
Better to be early than late.
Harder to smile than frown,
Harder to go up than down,
Harder to laugh than cry,
Harder to live than die.
Wiser to hope than despair,
Wiser to help than not care,
Wiser to go in than out,
Wiser to believe than doubt.
Better to be strong than lean,
Better to love than hate,
Better to be early than late.
Harder to smile than frown,
Harder to go up than down,
Harder to laugh than cry,
Harder to live than die.
Wiser to hope than despair,
Wiser to help than not care,
Wiser to go in than out,
Wiser to believe than doubt.
I Believe in the Ocean
I believe in the ocean,
Every drop and every wave,
It's metaphor of cleansing,
And the truth of its power.
I believe in its loveliness,
And the way it hits the rocks,
Which over time become sand,
For everyone to touch.
I believe in its strength,
And the breath it gives fish,
All the life beneath the waves,
And yet death for any human.
I truly love its water,
And the energy it gives me,
The life it can restore to me,
Because I believe in the ocean.
Every drop and every wave,
It's metaphor of cleansing,
And the truth of its power.
I believe in its loveliness,
And the way it hits the rocks,
Which over time become sand,
For everyone to touch.
I believe in its strength,
And the breath it gives fish,
All the life beneath the waves,
And yet death for any human.
I truly love its water,
And the energy it gives me,
The life it can restore to me,
Because I believe in the ocean.

A Drabble
I trust you like I trust every breath of air,
I want you like I want the ocean's water on my toes,
I feel you like I feel the sun heating my skin,
I know you like I know the moon is brightest when it's full,
I hear you like I hear the bird's song every sunny day,
I love you as assuredly as light can make a rainbow.
I want you like I want the ocean's water on my toes,
I feel you like I feel the sun heating my skin,
I know you like I know the moon is brightest when it's full,
I hear you like I hear the bird's song every sunny day,
I love you as assuredly as light can make a rainbow.

The Sound of Birds and a Distant Factory
I sit outside, the sun is bright,
But not as bright, as the day before,
Memories come to me, like the gentle breeze
Breeze not strong enough, to push at the door.
I've never longed for flowers, as I long for the sunshine
Because flowers don't imprint, on my pale white skin,
Flowers are for the dead, not the living
Sunshine makes me happy, more happy than I've been.
The birds chirp away, not because they're happy
But because it's their job, and they only do,
The birds never think, about my sunshine
They take it for granted, more than me or you,
So I'm sitting outside, with just the bright sun
I'm all alone today, but I still remain happy,
Flowers are dying, but I'm still alive,
The sound of birds, and a distant factory.

The Blank Page
The page is blank,
And I'm not writing,
Words have failed me,
This feels like dying.
Left with no inspiration,
Alone with an empty head,
Trying to find the words,
Looking back at the ones I've said.
Maybe I've written too much,
And I have no more words to say,
Maybe this will be my last poem,
Maybe this will end today.
But now I realize what is true,
As I look out at the pouring rain,
Painters get inspiration from their eyes,
Poets get it from their brains.
And now I see the words I've written,
Looking at my beautiful revelation,
Words have appeared upon the page,
And that is my inspiration.
And I'm not writing,
Words have failed me,
This feels like dying.
Left with no inspiration,
Alone with an empty head,
Trying to find the words,
Looking back at the ones I've said.
Maybe I've written too much,
And I have no more words to say,
Maybe this will be my last poem,
Maybe this will end today.
But now I realize what is true,
As I look out at the pouring rain,
Painters get inspiration from their eyes,
Poets get it from their brains.
And now I see the words I've written,
Looking at my beautiful revelation,
Words have appeared upon the page,
And that is my inspiration.
